United Way of Rhode Island

The Rhode Island office of United Way Worldwide. The mission of United Way is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. United Way is composed of almost 1,200 local United Way offices throughout the country in a coalition of charitable organizations to pool efforts in fundraising and support. United Way has been around for over 125 years, making them one of the oldest charitable organization in the United States.

The Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition
The Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition

The mission of the Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition is to organize the Rhode Island faith community, its leaders and members, for all matters impacting the poor, vulnerable and the disenfranchised. Other goals include connecting common threads of faith traditions to fight poverty with faith, and to provide advocacy and empowerment for the poor.

The Economic Progress Institute – formerly The Poverty Institute – is a nonpartisan research and policy organization dedicated to improving the economic well-being of low- and modest-income Rhode Islanders. State of Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources – Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
State of Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources – Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Block Grant is funded through the Federal Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of the LIHEAP program is to assist Rhode Island’s low-income households meet the increasing cost of home energy and reduce the severity of an energy related crisis. Rhode Island’s LIHEAP is administered by the Office of Energy Resources. LIHEAP intake and outreach is provided by local Community Action agencies (CAP).

The RI Department of Labor and Training oversees various benefit programs for Rhode Island workers and employers including Unemployment Insurance, Temporary Disability Insurance, WorkShare, Workers’ Compensation, and Trade Adjustment Assistance. Since, 1972, the Rhode Island Health Center Association has been the voice of community based primary care health programs. Focusing on Rhode Island’s Community Health Centers, the Association plays a vital role in educating federal state and local policymakers about issues relating to health care and the role of the community health centers in the health care continuum.

Head Start is a federally funded program created in 1965 in an effort to combat poverty. The program offers a wide range of services to low-income children aged three to five years old. The mission of the Rhode Island Head Start Association is to promote universal, high quality Head Start programs and services, training and other mutually supportive activities, especially for Directors and parents. Their goal is to strengthen the critical leadership roles parents and staff play in promoting social justice and educational equality for Head Start children and families.

Virtual CAP serves as a clearinghouse of information and material that can be used by Community Action Agencies and others to help low-income persons and families move toward self-sufficiency and to reduce poverty in communities across the United States.

National Association For State Community Services Programs
National Association For State Community Services Programs

The National Association for State Community Services Programs (NASCSP) is the premier national association charged with advocating and enhancing the leadership role of states in preventing and reducing poverty. NASCSP's vision encompasses the empowerment of low-income families to reach self-sufficiency in its broadest context, through helping states attain full utilization of their resources and implement an extensive array of services to these families.

CSBG Training/Technical Assistance Resource Center

The CSBG TTA Center was developed in conjunction with the Community Action Partnership. This project contains a broad array of resources intended to assist Community Action Agencies, CSBG State Associations, and CSBG State Offices in their important anti-poverty work. The CSBG TTA Center allows electronic submission of requests for training or technical assistance, ensures the coordination of resources, and allow experts to meet the training and technical assistance needs of the CAA network.

CAPLAW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization, established in 1989, dedicated to providing the legal, governance and management resources necessary to sustain and strengthen the national Community Action Agency (CAA) network. Through its in-house staff and a network of private attorneys, CAPLAW provides consultations, training, and resources on a wide variety of legal, governance and management topics.
